Vice President, Business Development
Remote (Greater Boston preferred)
A fast-growing CDMO is seeking a Vice President of Business Development to lead its commercial strategy and oversee a high-performing BD team. This executive role is ideal for a dynamic and visionary leader who thrives in a growth-oriented environment and brings deep industry relationships across the biopharma outsourcing ecosystem (CDMO, CMO, CRO).
With capabilities spanning mammalian, microbial, and gene therapy manufacturing, as well as process development and characterization, the company is positioned for significant expansion and seeks a VP who can scale business development efforts across key markets.
Key Responsibilities
🔹 Strategic Leadership & Revenue Growth
Own the development and execution of the company's commercial strategy
Lead national sales efforts, targeting biopharma and biotech companies across all stages
Drive significant revenue growth and market share expansion
🔹 Team Oversight & Development
Manage, mentor, and expand a team of Business Development Directors and Associates
Set KPIs, monitor performance, and instill a culture of accountability and excellence
🔹 Executive Partnerships
Act as the face of the company with key decision-makers at prospective and current client organizations
Work closely with the executive team (CEO, COO, CSO) to align sales with company growth plans
🔹 Market Intelligence & Strategy
Identify trends, competitive threats, and partnership opportunities across the outsourcing landscape
Guide pricing strategy, service positioning, and go-to-market initiatives
🔹 Client Engagement & Deal Structuring
Lead high-value, complex deal negotiations from initial pitch through close
Ensure exceptional client experience and long-term relationship development
🔹 Brand Presence & Industry Visibility
Represent the company at major conferences, trade shows, and networking events
Elevate the brand presence through strategic partnerships and thought leadership
Qualifications
12+ years of commercial experience in the biotech or biopharma industry, with 5+ years in a leadership role at a CDMO/CMO/CRO
Proven success scaling BD teams and growing multimillion-dollar revenue streams
Deep network of biopharma decision-makers (technical operations, procurement, R&D, C-suite)
Strong understanding of the drug development and manufacturing process
Executive presence, strategic mindset, and high emotional intelligence
Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, or Business (advanced degree preferred)
Travel as needed (20-30% expected)
