Our client is a rapidly growing Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) specializing in drug product development and sterile manufacturing for biotechnology and pharmaceutical partners.
The Director / Senior Director of Business Development will lead new business acquisition and client engagement across the drug product services portfolio. This role will focus on building relationships with emerging biotech and mid-size pharma organizations on the West Coast, particularly within the San Francisco Bay Area, to expand the company's footprint in parenteral drug product development and manufacturing.
The ideal candidate combines technical fluency in sterile drug product manufacturing with proven commercial success in the CDMO sector.
Develop and execute a strategic commercial plan to drive revenue growth across drug product CDMO services (formulation, fill-finish, lyophilization, packaging, and analytical testing).
Identify, qualify, and close new business opportunities with biotech and pharma partners from pre-clinical through commercial stages.
Manage the full sales cycle - from prospecting and proposal generation to contract negotiation and handoff.
Collaborate cross-functionally with technical operations, project management, and quality teams to develop tailored proposals and ensure delivery alignment.
Negotiate CDAs, MSAs, and development or supply agreements; maintain long-term client relationships to ensure repeat business.
Represent the company at key industry events and trade shows (BIO, PDA, CPhI, DCAT, etc.) to strengthen visibility and brand reputation.
Maintain accurate pipeline data within CRM and provide regular forecasting and performance reporting to leadership.
Bachelor's degree in a life sciences, engineering, or business discipline; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
8-15+ years of progressive experience in business development within the drug product CDMO sector.
Deep knowledge of aseptic manufacturing, fill-finish, lyophilization, or injectables (ophthalmic, IV, or specialty dosage forms).
Demonstrated success in closing multimillion-dollar service contracts and meeting/exceeding annual revenue targets.
Understanding of cGMP operations, regulatory expectations, and technical transfer processes.
Established network within the San Francisco Bay Area biotech community strongly preferred.
Strong negotiation, presentation, and relationship-management skills; comfortable engaging C-suite and technical stakeholders.
Proficiency with CRM tools such as Salesforce or MS Dynamics.
Willingness to travel regionally (25-40%) for client visits and conferences.
Entrepreneurial, science-minded commercial professional with a deep understanding of injectable or sterile drug product manufacturing.
Comfortable in a fast-moving, high-growth environment where collaboration and execution drive success.
Track record of developing consultative, long-term client partnerships that translate into measurable revenue growth.
