As the Health and Safety Director, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all health and safety policies and procedures within our greenhouse facilities. You will play a critical role in ensuring a safe working environment for all employees and compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. Your leadership will drive our commitment to safety and health excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Policy Development and Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure all policies and procedures comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Regularly review and update health and safety protocols to reflect changes in regulations and industry best practices.
Risk Assessment and Management:
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks.
- Monitor the effectiveness of risk management strategies and make necessary adjustments.
Training and Education:
- Design and deliver health and safety training programs for all employees.
- Ensure all employees are aware of and understand health and safety policies and procedures.
- Keep abreast of new health and safety training requirements and ensure timely compliance.
Incident Management:
- Lead investigations into any workplace accidents or incidents to determine causes and implement preventive measures.
- Maintain detailed records of incidents and follow up on corrective actions.
- Report incidents to relevant authorities as required.
Compliance and Auditing:
- Conduct regular health and safety audits to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies.
- Prepare and present reports on audit findings and recommendations to senior management.
- Ensure timely implementation of audit recommendations.
Employee Engagement and Communication:
- Foster a culture of safety and health within the organization.
- Communicate health and safety information effectively to all levels of the organization.
- Encourage and facilitate employee involvement in health and safety initiatives.
Emergency Preparedness:
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
- Conduct regular emergency drills and ensure all employees are trained in emergency response.
- Coordinate with local emergency services as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a health and safety leadership role, preferably in agriculture or horticulture.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and standards.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in using health and safety management software and tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
