Head of Operations /Operations Director - Metals Distribution and Value-Added Services

Based: West Midlands

Area Covered: UK & Ireland

Due to increased workload and expansion within the site, an exciting opportunity has arisen with one of our clients for a Head of Operations /Operations Director - Metals Distribution and Value-Added Services to cover the UK.

The ideal candidate will have a Strong Operational background within the Steel Industry, failing that you will have a strong operational background in Metals, Components, Machining, or something Metals Related. They would also be interested to speak to applicant's who have experience of working for Large Fabrication companies or in a wider General Engineering environment or you will be able to demonstrate experience of working in a senior Operational role in Technical Manufacturing across the UK.

As a Head of Operations /Operations Director - Metals Distribution and Value-Added Services, you will be responsible for a site of 125 employees with 5 direct reports. You will oversee what is essentially a Cost Centre where you will be measured on quality, health and safety, cost per activity, OTIF and other softer targets relation to people and people development.

The role will involve holding weekly reporting meetings onsite along with local site meetings, attending and participating in daily team huddles getting to know your staff and building relationships from day one. There will be a big emphasis on managing the supply chain along with overseeing Capex Planning for the coming year along with leading with and working collaboratively with the Projects team.

The role is very much a sponsoring / mentoring role very much overseeing in certain situations, not necessarily leading. It is also a very agile and flexible role plus it is a very visible role and the business is very much in search for someone who is very much a people person, who is gregarious and can speak to people at all levels. Ultimately though, they require someone who in time knows every member of staff and has built strong relationships across the board and demonstrates they are an out and out leader.

This role is seen as vital within the business so if you are successful, it could potentially lead to some interesting and diverse opportunities for career progression into more senior positions within the company for the successful applicant so you will be hungry, ambitious and forward-thinking.

You will possess a proven track record of a Strong Operational background within the Steel Industry, Metals, Components, Machining, or something Metals Related, Large Fabrications or from General Engineering or Technical Manufacturing.

They require candidates who have a strong character, are durable and who comes alive when speaking to and interacting with people. They are looking for applicants who are passionate, enthusiastic, very energetic and who commands respect but who also respect people when they are talking. Credibility and a proven track record are key also.
