Business Development Lead - East Coast
Remote | Preferably based in Boston, Philadelphia, or RTP area

A fast-growing CDMO with end-to-end capabilities across mammalian, microbial, and gene therapy platforms is seeking a Business Development Team Lead to oversee East Coast commercial efforts. This player-coach role is ideal for someone who excels at building client relationships, closing deals, and mentoring junior BD professionals in a high-growth environment.

Role Summary
You'll be responsible for leading regional business development activities, growing key accounts, and managing a small but expanding team of BD professionals. You'll report directly to the VP of Business Development and play a pivotal role in shaping the company's commercial footprint across the East Coast.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Coaching

  • Supervise and develop a team of Business Development Associates across the East Coast

  • Provide ongoing mentorship, pipeline guidance, and performance feedback

  • Lead regional sales meetings and contribute to national BD strategy

Sales & Revenue Growth

  • Drive direct sales efforts and meet/exceed revenue targets in your own territory

  • Lead client engagement, manage high-value accounts, and close complex deals

  • Collaborate with the executive and technical teams to scope and structure proposals

Strategy & Execution

  • Help shape the East Coast go-to-market strategy and regional growth plan

  • Identify gaps, hiring needs, and strategic priorities to increase market penetration

  • Stay current on market trends and competitor activity to inform positioning

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Work closely with internal teams (R&D, Tech Ops, Regulatory, etc.) to ensure alignment and client satisfaction

  • Support onboarding of new clients to ensure smooth handoffs from BD to delivery

Conferences & Industry Networking

  • Represent the company at regional and national industry events

  • Identify new channels and opportunities to grow brand visibility and client pipeline

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of business development or sales experience within a CDMO, CRO, or biopharma services environment

  • 2+ years of leadership or mentorship experience preferred

  • Strong network of biopharma contacts across the East Coast (biotech hubs highly valued)

  • Proven ability to meet or exceed commercial targets

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or Business required (advanced degree a plus)

  • Must be based on the East Coast and open to limited travel (15-25%)
