As Managing Director of CSG Talent’s Australian offices, I’m often asked what it’s like to build a career here. What has driven our growth? What makes our culture different? And what opportunities are available as you develop your career? Here are some of the questions I’m most commonly asked by people considering joining the team.
I think it really comes down to the fact that we have the right people in the business. We have strong procedures and structures in place, and we also have the infrastructure from the global business that we can rely on, such as marketing, finance, sales, and all the performance directors. Being collaborative as a global unit is something that drives success for Australia and ultimately ensures we are successful as a global brand.
One of the main things I love about CSG Talent is that it feels like each consultant is effectively running their own business within the business. We have a prime location in the Sydney CBD that they can utilize, as well as the flexibility to work with and around their clients. You work for the business, but the fact that you can manage your own P&L and hold yourself accountable is fantastic.
In Australia, a lot of the consultants have achieved their personal goals as well as their career goals. Bronwen has purchased her first home, which was a long-term goal for her. It's something that she didn't think was going to be achievable for quite a long time, considering Australia's property market is very expensive. She's done that much quicker than she thought possible.
Evan has also purchased the car that he had always wanted. We've had quite a few people who have always wanted to go on life-changing trips, as well as buy material things like expensive bags and watches. They've all had long-term goals that they've been able to achieve.
It’s great that our consultants can move globally between our offices around the world. A lot of our staff in the Australian office come from the UK, so the ability to go and explore part of the world, work somewhere like Sydney, Melbourne, or Tampa, and then move back at the end of their career and continue with CSG Talent is a huge opportunity. We have people from all over the world in our Sydney office.
If someone was looking to move from the UK to Australia, we have several different visa options. Currently, we have the working holiday visas, which UK citizens can get for up to 3 years. However, following a successful probationary period, as a business we would look to sponsor you. That would include the full costs being covered by the business, as well as a relocation package for you and your family.
CSG Talent Australia has a culture that I've never experienced before. It's such a positive atmosphere, and, as cliche as it sounds, everyone really does treat each other like family. They spend time together outside of work, go for dinners, and hang out on the weekend - it's a real collaborative environment in Australia, and it's something that we really leverage.
Culture is one of the main considerations in our internal hiring process. We always have multiple members of the team meet each consultant during the interview process to make sure they are a good team fit.
We've had quite a few fun incentives. As a team, we went rope climbing at Taronga Zoo, which was really fun. We are going to do a boat trip as well to go whale watching in the near future. And then we have our long-term incentives, which will be a stretch target for a trip to Bali next year.
I think one of the things that excites me most looking ahead is the collaboration between all our global offices. From a client perspective, the fact that CSG Talent’s consultants from all around the world can support their business is a huge opportunity for both us and our clients. Collaborating globally across our specialist industries gives us the opportunity to really grow as a global market leader.
