A career in recruitment offers the opportunity to build strong commercial skills and work with global businesses to support their growth both from a headcount perspective while also contributing to their overall business goals. In executive search, consultants gain exposure to industries and leadership teams from an early stage, making it a career that develops confidence and communication skills quickly.
It’s a fast-paced and rewarding environment where progression is closely linked to performance and impact, offering clear opportunities for long-term development and financial reward.
The CSG Talent Academy was created to help ambitious people build those foundations early, giving them the training, support, and industry expertise required to develop a successful career in executive search recruitment.

The CSG Talent Academy is designed for graduates and early-career professionals who are looking to build a long-term career in recruitment, regardless of whether they already have experience in the industry. Some people join straight from university, while others come from sales or customer-facing backgrounds where they have already developed strong communication skills and a competitive mindset.
From the beginning, the focus is on practical development. Consultants are introduced to the core aspects of executive search, but the learning is always tied back to real situations and live activity rather than theory alone.
Over the first few months, consultants gradually build an understanding of both the recruitment process and the markets they are working in, as well as the expectations and standards that come with working in a high-performance environment. The aim is to give people the right support and exposure to develop quickly and confidently.
One of the main things that separates the CSG Talent Academy from other training programmes is how hands-on the process is from the start. Academy consultants learn through practical experience, working alongside experienced consultants and managers while gradually taking on more responsibility themselves. This includes:
Consultants apply what they learn in practical situations early on, which helps confidence develop much more naturally over time. That practical approach was one of the things that stood out most to Adriana Cahill, a current CSG Talent Academy recruiter specialising in the Nutraceuticals market:
“The hands-on learning is the best aspect of it, because until you make calls and start speaking to clients and candidates, you’re not going to truly understand how to. I was walked through the processes one step at a time so that it wasn’t overwhelming. If I had to learn it all myself, it would have been far more difficult and stressful.”

While the CSG Talent Academy gives consultants a structured introduction to recruitment, the development process continues well beyond the first few months. Recruitment is an industry where there is always more to learn, particularly in executive search where market expertise and relationship building are crucial.
At CSG Talent, support continues through regular coaching and guidance from the L&D team. Some consultants may need more help developing confidence in business development conversations, while others may focus more heavily on strengthening industry expertise or refining their approach to managing processes.
This individual approach is important because people naturally develop at different speeds and in different ways. The expectation is still high, but there is a strong level of buy-in from managers and leadership teams across the business, and that creates an environment where people feel supported while still being challenged to improve. This training and support from the L&D team is not limited to the academy, it remains available throughout a consultant’s entire career at CSG Talent.
One of the clearest indicators of the academy’s success is how quickly consultants begin contributing in a meaningful way. Within the first few months, they are already securing client meetings, building relationships with candidates, and making placements while developing a much stronger understanding of both recruitment and their specialist markets.
For many consultants, that early responsibility also has a big impact on confidence and personal development. Dan McDonald, a Future Mobility specialist and member of the academy, believes the experience has helped him grow significantly within a short space of time:
“I’ve always been quite a social person, but my confidence has grown massively since starting at CSG Talent and it’s made me feel like I have the ability to achieve great things. If you want to work in a place where your hard work is recognised and you get out what you put in, I’d say 100% join the academy because it will genuinely improve your life, not just professionally but personally as well.”
The level of responsibility consultants take on early also helps them see what their long-term careers in recruitment could look like. Several members of the current intake are already managing their own processes and developing strong relationships with clients and candidates early in their careers.

The academy is designed to prepare consultants for the next stage of their career at CSG Talent. By the time they move into their established teams, they already have a strong understanding of their market and practical recruitment experience that they can continue building on as they develop within the business.
From there, the focus shifts toward becoming a specialist recruiter by building stronger client relationships and continuing to grow within their chosen market. While the academy is the starting point, the wider aim is long-term career development, with ongoing support, training, and progression opportunities as consultants continue to grow.
John Deignan, now a Managing Consultant specialising in the Heavy Equipment market, originally joined CSG Talent through the academy and has since progressed quickly within the business. After quickly becoming a top biller and earning multiple promotions, he has recently moved into a management role himself, reflecting the level of progression possible in a relatively short space of time.
Looking back at his experience joining the CSG Talent Academy, John believes the support and environment helped make the transition into recruitment much smoother early on:
“It was my first time being in an office environment, so it felt a bit weird at the age of 21, but there was a lot of support and no expectation for you to be on the phone making deals in the first few weeks. I was taught a lot about the theory behind recruitment before making any calls, so it was nice not to be thrown straight into the deep end. Everyone roots for you from the start, and being around top recruiters helps massively because you can learn by listening to their calls, and the door is always open to ask them questions.”

The people who thrive in the CSG Talent Academy are usually those who are ambitious, proactive, and genuinely motivated to succeed. A background in recruitment is not essential, and neither is a specific degree or career path. The most important factor is attitude, as we look for people who are willing to learn quickly, push themselves outside their comfort zone, and take ownership of their development.
Adriana believes the academy has changed the way she viewed recruitment as a career option:
“To someone considering a role in recruitment, I’d say give it a shot! I never really thought I would be in a sales or client-facing role, but I can already see that it’s a great career. At CSG Talent there’s such camaraderie, and you can really scale and grow with the company. I feel like my success is in my own hands.”
For graduates and early-career professionals looking for a career where development is continuous and progression is driven by performance, the CSG Talent Academy provides a structured route into executive search and a long-term opportunity to grow within the industry.
