Vice President of Construction - Data Centers
Location: Hybrid, with preference for candidates based in Chicago, IL; Denver, CO; Dallas, TX; Phoenix, AZ; or Austin, TX
Reports To: Senior Vice President, Product Delivery
A leading global colocation operator with a strong track record in technology and real estate development is seeking a Vice President of Construction. The company develops, acquires, and operates data centers for some of the world's largest enterprises, providing flexible ownership options and dynamic leasing models that foster long-term partnerships with customers.
The Vice President of Construction will oversee the full lifecycle of data center development projects, from concept through completion. This role is accountable for ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the company's quality standards. Responsibilities include managing general contractors, vendor relationships, and internal project teams, while driving integration across design, construction, and operations.
This leader will work closely with Development, Engineering, Finance, and Procurement teams to mitigate cost and schedule risks, optimize delivery models, and embed best practices into all new and ongoing projects.
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of Project Managers, Engineers, and Schedulers while fostering a culture focused on safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
Oversee general contractors across multiple campuses and markets, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, budget, safety protocols, and design specifications.
Manage capital budgets, project authorizations, RFPs, forecasting, and contractor billing in partnership with Finance and Cost Control teams.
Collaborate with Sales, Preconstruction, Procurement, Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure alignment on customer requirements, design standards, and delivery expectations.
Support customer engagement by translating lease and technical requirements into successful project outcomes, ensuring client satisfaction.
Lead vendor qualification, contract negotiations, and relationship management to maintain compliance, cost efficiency, and quality standards.
Champion lessons learned, process improvements, and change management initiatives to achieve cost and schedule efficiencies across regions.
10+ years of experience in mission-critical construction management, with a strong preference for data center project expertise.
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Proven track record of managing large-scale construction projects through all phases of delivery.
Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) required.
