Reports To: VP of Engineering
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading electrical engineering efforts across a portfolio of data center projects. These may include new builds, phased expansions, retrofits, upgrades, and acquisition conversions, as well as developing and standardizing MEFP (Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, Plumbing) equipment and design processes.
This position aligns with long-term business strategies and collaborates with key internal stakeholders, design partners, and equipment suppliers to ensure consistent and high-quality project delivery.
Lead and support electrical engineering tasks for master planning and conceptual design during the investment planning and review process.
Evaluate RFPs for design services and assist with bid leveling and scope verification.
Grow into a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in electrical engineering.
Review consultants' calculations and provide independent cost and engineering analysis.
Support design and construction teams by reviewing drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and coordination documents.
Provide guidance on deviations from standards and requirements.
Research materials, methods, and systems for electrical, telecom, and low voltage components in data centers.
Conduct value engineering and system recommendations with cost estimators based on ROI and payback.
Review IAS (Integrated Automation System) points lists and sequences of operation (BAS/BMS, EPMS, DCIM).
Use engineering software and judgment to analyze:
Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE)
Load sizing and electrical block calculations for normal and failure modes
Coordination and Arc Flash studies (e.g., SKM PTW)
Power distribution and underground heat calculations (e.g., ETAP)
Lighting design assessments (e.g., AGI32)
Attend virtual and occasional on-site meetings with internal teams, consultants, and build partners.
Participate in Factory Witness Testing of critical equipment when needed.
Contribute to technical discussions with clients as assigned.
Support Level 4 and Level 5 commissioning (Cx) during on-site efforts.
Troubleshoot electrical issues and respond to emergencies as needed.
Work with leadership and stakeholders to evaluate new products and technologies for integration into company standards.
Partner with Operations teams to ensure best practices and design standards meet operational requirements.
Participate in review and validation of Methods of Procedure (MOPs).
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent); Professional Engineer (P.E.) license strongly preferred.
5+ years of experience in mission-critical or data center electrical design and construction.
Proficiency with Bluebeam (or similar), Teams, Excel, and Word.
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and power modeling tools such as SKM PTW or ETAP preferred.
Knowledge of relevant building and electrical codes (IBC, NEC) preferred.
Awareness of industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE TC9.9, BICSI Data Center Standards) is beneficial.
Base salary range of $130K-$180K plus performance-based bonus
