Transmission Department Manager - Southeast Region


Chattanooga, TN | Atlanta, GA | Charlotte, NC

Are you a proven leader in Transmission & Distribution (T&D) engineering looking to make an impact on the Southeast power grid? We're seeking a Transmission Department Manager to lead and grow a high-performing team of engineers and designers across our Chattanooga, Atlanta, and Charlotte offices.

This role offers the opportunity to shape strategy, drive innovation, and champion technical excellence while developing future leaders in the industry.

What You'll Do

People Leadership & Development

  • Build, mentor, and inspire a collaborative, high-performing engineering team.

  • Partner with HR to recruit and onboard top talent, including interns and new graduates.

  • Support career growth, conduct performance reviews, and implement training programs.

  • Foster a culture of safety, ownership, innovation, and teamwork.

Project Execution & Technical Excellence

  • Act as a senior technical advisor for transmission projects across the region and internationally.

  • Ensure project quality, budget, and schedule objectives are met.

  • Champion adoption of innovative tools and workflows to enhance efficiency.

  • Provide oversight for proposals, QA/QC, and resource planning.

Strategic Planning & Growth

  • Contribute to regional business planning, vision setting, and SWOT analysis.

  • Partner with Marketing and Business Development to pursue new opportunities.

  • Represent the firm at industry conferences and client engagements.

  • Promote innovation, diversity, and process improvement initiatives.

Cross-Regional Alignment & Operations

  • Collaborate with national leaders to share best practices and align standards.

  • Integrate global engineering resources for consistent project delivery.

  • Support quality management and continuous improvement in project execution.

  • Contribute to development of EPC and program management offerings.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, or related field.

  • 7+ years of consulting experience in T&D (engineering design or project management).

  • Proven leadership in an engineering/technical environment.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.

  • Demonstrated project management expertise with financial accountability.

Preferred

  • 10+ years of industry experience.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and/or PMP certification.

  • Experience with EcoSys, MS Project, PowerBI, or similar tools.

  • Business development and proposal writing experience.

  • Background in multi-office, matrixed organizations.
