Senior Tailings Engineer - 4 Day Work Week

A unique opportunity has opened for a senior-level Tailings Engineer to join a well-established base metal operation in Arizona, supporting the safe, sustainable management of five Tailings Storage Facilities . This position offers a blend of technical complexity, site-wide influence, and the work-life balance of a 4-day work week.
About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced engineer to take a leading role in the performance monitoring, design input, risk management, and future planning of a multi-facility TSF network. This is a mature, complex site with varied topography, legacy infrastructure, and active raise programs. The successful candidate will play a key part in shaping long-term tailings strategies while maintaining compliance with evolving industry and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical oversight for the safe operation and ongoing performance of five TSFs
Conduct inspections, geotechnical assessments, and dam safety reviews in line with site and regulatory requirements
Analyze monitoring data and provide engineering recommendations to support performance optimization and risk mitigation
Contribute to raise planning, design reviews, and construction oversight
Engage with external consultants and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and international standards (including GISTM)
Collaborate with water management and environmental teams on seepage control and site water balance
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the operation
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Mining Engineering (or related discipline)
A minimum of 10 years' experience in tailings or geotechnical engineering within the mining sector
Extensive experience working with or managing multiple TSFs, particularly in brownfield or complex legacy environments
Strong understanding of dam safety, tailings design and monitoring systems, and regulatory compliance frameworks
Proven ability to lead technical discussions, manage stakeholders, and contribute to strategic planning
Desirable:
Spanish language skills (an asset, but not essential)
Familiarity with Arizona-specific regulatory and permitting requirements
Exposure to sites with water management or closure planning challenges
