Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Electric Propulsion Systems

CSG is partnered with an innovative aerospace company based in the bay area of California whom are developing an all-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Tackling complex engineering challenges housing an environment of next generation growth while fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace is essential to the company's success and to the success of its employees.

The role:

  • Design, develop and test high voltage, high power density motors for eVTOL applications.

  • Responsible for all aspects of the mechanical design of the electric motor: rotor and stator.

  • Perform analysis and optimization of motor design using FEA for mechanical modeling, thermal modeling, acoustics, and vibration.

  • Support validation efforts through dynamometer testing.

  • Responsible for tolerance stack-ups and Monte Carlo simulations.

  • Own the development process through all stages: concept, design, testing, validation, production release, and ongoing support.

  • Continuously evaluate new technologies and design improvements to develop the most power-dense, efficient, and reliable electric motor.

  • Prototype concept designs.

  • Generate complete design packages including detailed drawings, analysis reports, BOMs, and assembly instructions.

  • Assist in generating critical technical documents for the mechanical team, such as component specifications, prototype test plans, statements of work, and assembly manuals.

  • Support integration of motor and controller components.

Requirements:

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years, or MS with 3+ years of relevant experience.

  • Experience completing at least one full product development cycle from concept to finished product.

  • Proficiency in CAD software.

  • Strong understanding of core physics principles, including materials, heat transfer, and mechanics.

  • Proficiency in mechanical tolerance stack-up analysis and expert-level knowledge of GD&T.
