Senior Controls Engineer

A global data center developer is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join its Denver-based engineering team. The company designs, develops, and operates mission-critical data center facilities for some of the world's largest enterprises. With a strong foundation in technology and real estate development, it offers flexible ownership and leasing models that promote long-term partnerships with clients.
The Senior Controls Engineer will oversee all aspects of controls engineering across a portfolio of data center projects, including new builds, expansions, retrofits, and acquisitions. This role will ensure the consistent application of standards for BAS, BMS, EPMS, and DCIM systems while supporting the development of design processes, specifications, and procedures. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, this position plays a key role in maintaining operational efficiency, reliability, and scalability across the organization's data center assets.
Serve as the subject matter expert for controls systems (BAS, BMS, EPMS, DCIM) across multiple projects.
Develop and maintain design standards, specifications, RFPs, and sequences of operation.
Review and validate consultant and contractor documentation, including schematics, P&IDs, and network designs.
Support procurement, installation, and commissioning of control systems; participate in commissioning reviews and testing.
Collaborate with internal teams to align design approaches with cost, performance, and sustainability goals.
Analyze performance metrics such as PUE, load sizing, and ROI; contribute to value engineering initiatives.
Research and recommend innovative technologies and sustainable solutions for data center environments.
Participate in design coordination meetings with internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners.
Provide technical support for troubleshooting and resolving controls-related issues.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (preferred).
5+ years of experience in data center or mission-critical mechanical design and construction.
In-depth understanding of critical cooling systems and redundancy strategies.
Proficiency with Bluebeam, Teams, Excel, and Word.
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, psychrometric analysis, load/energy modeling, and CFD analysis.
Strong knowledge of construction codes (IBC, IMC) and data center industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE TC9.9, BICSI).
Salary range: $130,000 - $180,000, plus project-based bonuses.
