About the Company

With over 650 bespoke solutions delivered across major brands, they are expanding their Sydney-based engineering team and seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to help lead and shape world-first automation projects.

This is not a role for someone looking to work on templated systems. Our client operates in the realm of tailored, high-complexity projects, and they are re looking for a hands-on technical leader with a passion for innovation and detail.

About the Role

As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will design, program, and integrate industrial automation systems from concept to commissioning. You will work on cross-platform PLC and HMI development, vision systems, motion control, and robotic programming, often involving ABB and KUKA robots in advanced production environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement automation and control systems for bespoke machinery and robotic cells
  • Program Rockwell and/or Siemens PLCs and develop HMIs
  • Perform robotic programming (ABB and/or KUKA essential)
  • Integrate and troubleshoot vision systems - including Cognex, Micro-Epsilon, or Mech-Mind
  • Create detailed electrical schematics and lead component selection
  • Ensure full compliance with Australian Safety Standards (AS4024)
  • Deliver complex automation projects across varied industries
  • Mentor junior team members and collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and software teams

About You

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in controls engineering across programming, PLCs, HMIs, and vision integration
  • Proven capability with Rockwell and/or Siemens PLCs
  • Robot programming experience with ABB and/or KUKA is essential
  • Strong experience with vision systems, ideally Cognex, Micro-Epsilon, Mech-Mind
  • Skilled in electrical schematic design and component selection
  • Experience delivering diverse and bespoke automation projects from scratch
  • Familiarity with a broad range of industrial communication protocols
  • Autonomous project leadership skills and the ability to mentor others
