Senior Equipment Design Engineer
We require experienced design engineers who are interested in working with a market leader within the aerospace industry.
Day to day you will:
Apply engineering tools to develop and refine mechanical systems for assemblies, including updates, new product designs, and integration.
Design production tooling and custom fixtures internally to support manufacturing needs.
Create specialised tooling for composite bonding and aircraft structure assembly.
Prepare detailed Request for Quote (RFQ) documentation to source equipment from external vendors.
Oversee vendor progress and ensure equipment deliveries meet quality and performance standards.
Collaborate with procurement teams to acquire all necessary parts and components for in-house equipment builds.
Work cross-functionally with manufacturing and design teams to meet project timelines and deliverables.
Provide training and support to technicians and operators on new tools and systems.
Analyse performance data, generate technical reports, and diagnose issues related to equipment functionality.
Establish and implement process control methods to ensure production stability and quality.
Contribute to reliability and risk assessments, including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
Plan and execute testing procedures to verify and validate product and equipment performance.
Assist in assembly and functional testing during production ramp-up.
Support early prototype builds by developing and refining critical product and process parameters.
Participate in first article builds and provide engineering support during initial production phases.
What you need:
5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Mechatronic Engineering (or equivalent hands-on experience in a related field).
Background in equipment installation, optimisation, and improvement.
Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
Proficiency in both 2D and 3D CAD software to create layouts, assemblies, and detailed fabrication drawings.
Solid understanding of GD&T and statistical process control (SPC).
Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and presentations.
Ability to stay organised and focused while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to travel.
Bonus Qualifications:
Hands-on experience designing or developing electric motor (engine) manufacturing systems.
Previous internships or full-time roles in aerospace or a similar high-precision manufacturing field.
Familiarity with Siemens NX software.
Experience in transitioning products from prototype to full-scale production environments.
Knowledge of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) tools.
Skilled in programming or troubleshooting industrial automation systems such as PLCs, robotic arms, or automated gantry systems.
