CSG Talent are partnered with a PE backed baked goods business who are investing heavily in R&D innovation. The Research & Development Director is responsible for leading bakery product innovation, improving existing formulations, and optimizing production processes to consistently deliver high-quality results. The role combines hands-on benchtop work with strategic oversight, moving projects from initial concept through to large-scale manufacturing.

Please note, the role is located in the South-West and will require relocation to the site location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine new, innovative bakery products to meet established standards for quality, taste, and functionality.

  • Plan, conduct, and assess plant trials to determine product viability and scalability.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to address challenges during production trials and ensure smooth transitions from pilot runs to full production.

  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate product documentation, including ingredient specifications, Bills of Materials, and trial reports.

  • Research new ingredients and suppliers, evaluating materials for quality and suitability.

Essential Qualifications

  • Ability to work with or around common bakery allergens.

  • High level of experience in bakery manufacturing R&D.

  • Track record relating to new, innovative product development within the baked goods industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in laminated dough and batter-based product development for retail and service markets.

  • Strong knowledge of bakery formulation, ingredient functionality, and processing techniques.
