Job Summary

The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating daily production operations to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency standards are met. This role directly oversees hourly production team members and plays a key part in driving performance on the floor. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in food manufacturing and a solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing or Lean Six Sigma principles to support continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise and support production team members during assigned shifts.
  • Assign tasks and monitor team performance to ensure production schedules are met.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and teamwork.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and on-the-job training to team members.
  • Participate in performance evaluations and disciplinary processes as needed.

Production Operations

  • Oversee the execution of daily production plans in alignment with plant goals.
  • Monitor and adjust work-flows to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure machinery and equipment are running efficiently; report maintenance issues promptly.
  • Work closely with other departments (e.g., Maintenance, QA, Warehouse) to ensure smooth operations.

Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement

  • Support and apply Lean Manufacturing practices on the production floor.
  • Promote use of tools like 5S, root cause analysis, and standard work to improve efficiency.
  • Encourage team involvement in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Help identify waste and inefficiencies, and assist in implementing corrective actions.

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all products meet quality and food safety standards.
  • Monitor and document quality checks during production.
  • Escalate and help resolve any non-conformance or product deviation issues.
  • Collaborate with QA to maintain compliance with regulatory and internal standards.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safety procedures and ensure a safe work environment for all team members.
  • Conduct safety checks and participate in safety training and meetings.
  • Report and document any safety incidents, and assist in investigations and corrective actions.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Complete and maintain accurate production records, shift reports, and KPI tracking.
  • Communicate effectively with other shifts and departments to ensure alignment and continuity.
  • Support data collection for performance analysis and improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Experience: 2-4 years of experience in a food or beverage manufacturing environment, with 1-2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Prior exposure to Lean or Six Sigma concepts strongly preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate, coach, and manage a diverse team.
  • Knowledge of food safety practices, GMPs, and production protocols.
  • Proficient in using production systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift in a production environment for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
  • Tolerance for working in cold or variable temperature environments.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced production facility.
  • Exposure to moving equipment, variable noise levels, and seasonal temperature changes.
