Principal Tailings Engineer - Canada

We are seeking Principal Tailings Engineers to provide technical leadership and project delivery expertise on national and international mining projects.

You will oversee the design, assessment, and management of tailings storage facilities, heap leach pads, waste rock dumps, and related mine waste infrastructure, from concept to construction support.

We are open to discuss with candidates located anywhere across Canada for this confidential role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical input for tailings and mine waste facility design, including geotechnical analysis, soil mechanics, and geosynthetic engineering.
  • Deliver projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards, preparing reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct site visits for investigations, construction support, and troubleshooting.
  • Build and maintain client relationships, representing the company at meetings and on-site.
  • Support business development through proposal preparation and technical presentations.
  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering technical skills and professional growth.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and uphold company values, code of conduct, and diversity commitments.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in civil, geotechnical engineering, or engineering geology (postgraduate desirable).
  • Extensive experience with tailings, heap leach, water storage, and waste rock facility design and operation.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant design guidelines, regulations, and best practices.
  • Proven ability to analyse geotechnical data and apply engineering software tools.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and client-facing consultancy projects.
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally, including remote site work.
