The Opportunity

An established national environmental, engineering and property consultancy is looking for a proven sales professional to grow its Retail division.

This is a hands-on individual-contributor role focused specifically on winning and developing large national retailers and other multi-site consumer businesses. The successful candidate will already understand the retail market, have relationships with relevant corporate decision-makers and know how to convert those relationships into revenue.

The position does not carry responsibility for managing a sales team. Its focus is direct client engagement, new-business development, national account growth and cross-selling.

Target Retail Markets

The successful candidate will develop relationships across:

  • Big-box and general merchandise retailers
  • Grocery and supermarket groups
  • Restaurants and quick-service restaurant chains
  • Pharmacy and healthcare retailers
  • Convenience stores and fuel-station operators
  • Department stores and shopping-centre operators
  • Automotive retailers and service networks
  • Fitness and leisure chains
  • Specialty retailers
  • Other national businesses operating large property portfolios

The Company

The business supports national retailers throughout the property and store lifecycle, from evaluating new locations through construction, operation, compliance, improvement and redevelopment.

Its services include:

  • Environmental and property due diligence
  • Property condition and building assessments
  • Environmental site assessments
  • Environmental, health and safety consulting
  • Hazardous-materials investigation and remediation
  • Energy, sustainability and ESG advisory
  • Construction monitoring and project management
  • Portfolio-wide compliance and consulting programmes

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a national sales strategy for the Retail division.
  • Identify and secure new relationships with large national and regional retailers.
  • Build a pipeline of portfolio-wide, multi-location programmes rather than relying solely on individual projects.
  • Develop relationships with decision-makers across corporate real estate, store development, facilities, construction, environmental, sustainability, operations, compliance and procurement.
  • Understand retailers' property, environmental, construction and compliance challenges.
  • Position the company's services around store openings, acquisitions, refurbishments, portfolio management, operational compliance and site closures.
  • Expand existing retail accounts by introducing additional services and identifying opportunities across more locations.
  • Cross-sell environmental, engineering, EHS, sustainability and property-consulting services.
  • Coordinate internal technical specialists during meetings, proposals and presentations.
  • Personally lead new-business conversations and commercial negotiations.
  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline, revenue forecast and national account plan.
  • Remain involved throughout delivery to develop long-term and recurring client relationships.
  • Attend retail industry events and travel nationally for client meetings.

Candidate Profile

The priority is finding a proven individual sales contributor with direct experience selling into national retailers.

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • An established network of relationships within the national retail market.
  • Experience selling services across large, multi-location property portfolios.
  • Personal ownership of a sales quota or revenue target.
  • A track record of winning new retail clients.
  • Evidence of expanding and cross-selling into existing national accounts.
  • Experience developing recurring, portfolio-wide programmes.
  • Relationships with corporate real estate, facilities, construction, store development, environmental, sustainability or procurement leaders.
  • The ability to engage senior decision-makers within large retail organisations.
  • Experience managing complex sales involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong pipeline management, forecasting and account-planning skills.
  • The ability to work with technical specialists while retaining ownership of the client relationship.
  • The motivation and discipline required to operate successfully in a national remote position.

Candidates do not need to come from a direct competitor. Relevant backgrounds could include environmental consulting, engineering, architecture, construction, facilities services, programme management, property due diligence, sustainability, compliance, testing and inspection, or another service provider supporting national retailers.

However, candidates must be able to demonstrate credible retail relationships and a history of personally generating revenue from those clients.

What Is Offered

  • Responsibility for growing an established national Retail division.
  • Access to existing retail relationships and cross-selling opportunities.
  • A broad technical service offering relevant to the full retail-property lifecycle.
  • Direct support from experienced technical and operational leaders.
  • The flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in the United States.
  • Significant autonomy to develop national accounts and build a long-term retail sales pipeline.
