The Opportunity

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll take ownership of projects from concept through to design, manufacture, and final delivery. This is a hands-on, office and factory-based role where you'll collaborate closely with a team of six engineers, experienced shop-floor technicians, and suppliers to deliver machinery that meets and exceeds client expectations.

Reporting directly to the GM, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the engineering function during a period of organisational restructure and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of bespoke mechanical systems, ensuring functionality, reliability, and compliance.

  • Collaborate with customers to create tailored, robust design concepts.

  • Manage projects across the full lifecycle, including design, manufacture, testing, and delivery.

  • Work closely with internal teams in automation, electrical, machining, and assembly, as well as external suppliers.

  • Select and integrate components and systems, including mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic.

  • Innovate and problem-solve to develop best-in-class packaging automation solutions.

About You

We are seeking a driven engineer who thrives in a collaborative, hands-on environment. You will bring:

  • Degree qualification in mechanical engineering or mechatronics.

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in special purpose machinery design and manufacture.

  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, PDM Vault, and Microsoft Excel.

  • Working knowledge of pneumatic and motion control systems.

  • Experience in packaging machinery or high-end labelling equipment (highly regarded).

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to manage multiple projects.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport across teams and suppliers.

  • A long-term mindset and commitment to seeing projects through.

Desired extras:

  • Trade background and service technician experience.

  • Familiarity with SAP ERP systems.

  • Experience in mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic integration.
