Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager
This role oversees all aspects of food safety and product quality at a dynamic and fast-growing protein processing operation. The FSQA Manager is responsible for coordinating facility inspections, overseeing internal and external audits (including vendor and supplier sites), managing documentation, and maintaining product and label specifications. This position reports directly to the FSQA Director, who serves as backup when needed.
Monitor, track, and analyze trends from inspections, feedback loops, and customer reports to identify recurring FSQ concerns
Design and implement corrective and preventive strategies to resolve quality issues, non-compliance findings, or unexpected challenges
Maintain and update product specification systems to streamline internal accessibility and process flow
Act as a technical resource during new product introductions and launches
Create, manage, and update supplier and product data systems
Coordinate third-party testing for finished goods and share insights with internal teams and supply chain partners
Ensure all vendors and co-manufacturers have up-to-date compliance and approval documentation
Work closely with independent auditors to plan and attend facility audits
Conduct regular on-site audits at production locations focused on food safety and product integrity
Summarize findings for executive leadership and propose action plans
Train operational staff on food safety protocols and product quality standards during packaging
Participate in traceability exercises, including mock recalls and internal drills
Support new team member orientation on policies such as GMP, HACCP, and safety standards
Assist with other tasks as needed
5+ years in the meat, poultry, or related protein processing industries
Minimum of 3 years in a quality management or supervisory role
Current HACCP certification; experience with red meat, poultry, or pork is essential
Solid background in developing and maintaining FSQA systems and documentation
Experience working with protein product specs, including beef, lamb, pork, and poultry
Strong understanding of quality and facility auditing procedures (internal and third-party)
Familiarity with traceability practices and batch control processes
High proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
High school diploma or GED required
Bachelor's degree in food science or a similar field is preferred
Must be SQF-certified or able to obtain certification
Requires 3-5 years in a manufacturing setting, preferably protein-related
Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs and perform physical tasks such as standing for long periods, squatting, climbing, and reaching overhead as necessary
