Engineering Manager - Material Handling Systems

We are conducting a confidential search on behalf of a leading intralogistics company seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager. This role will lead mechanical and electrical engineering teams responsible for designing and delivering conveyor and material handling systems. Based in Savannah, GA, this is a high-impact leadership position where you'll ensure projects are executed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead engineering activities across mechanical layout/design and electrical panel/schematic design.

• Oversee the development of system layouts using CAD tools (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks).

• Direct the electrical design process, including control panel layout, schematics, and cable routing.

• Manage departmental budgets, forecasting, and expense tracking.

• Collaborate with sales, project management, manufacturing, and installation teams to turn customer requirements into engineered solutions.

• Plan and track deliverables across multiple projects to ensure on-time, cost-effective execution.

• Establish and maintain engineering standards and processes to support repeatability and continuous improvement.

• Recruit, develop, and mentor a team of engineers while fostering a culture of technical excellence.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.

• 8+ years of engineering experience, with at least 4 in material handling systems.

• Proven ability to lead cross-disciplinary engineering teams in a project-based environment.

• Strong technical knowledge of conveyor systems and material handling equipment.

• Proficiency with CAD tools (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks).

• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Knowledge of UL 508A panel design, PLC integration, and electrical safety standards (preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in automated systems for distribution or fulfillment environments.

• Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.

• MBA or formal leadership training.
