Engineering Manager - Conveyors

We are seeking a results-driven and hands-on Engineering Manager to lead Project Engineering efforts in the design and layout of material handling equipment, with a strong focus on conveyor systems. This role is responsible for overseeing both Mechanical and Electrical Engineering teams, ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and timely delivery of customer projects from layout through system implementation. The position emphasizes execution of engineered systems per customer specifications rather than R&D.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage engineering activities related to mechanical layout/design and electrical panel/schematic design for customer-specific conveyor and material handling projects.
  • Oversee the development of equipment and system layouts using CAD tools, ensuring designs meet performance requirements and customer expectations.
  • Direct the electrical design process, including control panel layout, electrical schematics, and cable routing to ensure code compliance and functional reliability.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Project Management, Manufacturing, and Installation teams to translate customer requirements into executable engineering plans.
  • Plan, assign, and track engineering deliverables across multiple projects to ensure systems are designed, reviewed, and released on schedule and within budget.
  • Ensure project designs are cost-effective, manufacturable, and installable, while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Maintain engineering standards, procedures, and documentation to support repeatability, consistency, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on project engineering progress, including design reviews, drawing releases, system readiness, and resource utilization.
  • Support staffing, training, and development of the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering teams.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong technical knowledge of conveyor systems and material handling equipment.
  • Proven ability to manage engineering project execution from layout through fabrication and commissioning.
  • Working knowledge of CAD tools including AutoCAD, Inventor, and SolidWorks for mechanical design; understanding of electrical design software is a plus.
  • Hands-on leadership style with a focus on mentoring, coaching, and team development.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to interface with both internal teams and external customers.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering required.
  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience, including 4+ years in material handling systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the design and implementation of conveyor equipment within the material handling industry.
  • Experience leading or managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams, especially in a project-based manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with UL 508A panel design, PLC integration (preferred), and electrical safety standards is beneficial.
