Position Summary:
The Accounting Manager - Production & Operating Accounting is responsible for overseeing all financial and cost accounting activities related to beef processing operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant reporting of production costs, yields, inventory valuation, and plant operating results. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical accounting skills with hands-on experience in manufacturing or food processing environments-particularly within the beef or protein industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Production & Operational Accounting
Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly production cost accounting, including yield analysis, by-product valuation, and waste reporting.
Monitor and reconcile raw material, WIP, and finished goods inventory to ensure accurate valuation and financial integrity.
Partner with operations to analyze production variances, labor and overhead absorption, and efficiency trends.
Maintain standard costs and support regular updates to reflect changes in production methods, input costs, and market conditions.
Track and report on plant KPIs, throughput, and operational performance metrics to management.
Financial Management & Reporting
Prepare and review monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and management reports for plant operations.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal policies across all production and operating accounting functions.
Support annual audits, inventory counts, and internal control assessments.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning related to plant and production costs.
Leadership & Collaboration
Supervise and develop a team of cost and plant accountants.
Work closely with plant management, operations, procurement, and corporate finance to improve data accuracy and decision-making.
Identify and implement process improvements to streamline reporting and enhance operational transparency.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
Multiple years of of progressive accounting experience, with strong understanding of cost or manufacturing accounting.
Experience in the meat processing industry.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of production accounting, cost accounting principles, and inventory management.
Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, JD Edwards, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across departments.
Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
