CSG Talent Working in Partnership

Mining Recruitment: How CSG Talent Secured Environmental Leadership for Liberty Gold

Liberty Gold is a North American gold developer focused on advancing large-scale, open-pit oxide gold projects in the Great Basin region, which covers parts of Nevada, Idaho, and Utah. With a commitment to responsible resource development, Liberty Gold works closely with local communities and regulatory bodies to ensure the project creates long-term value in an environmentally responsible way.

As they continue to grow, building the right operational and technical leadership team is vital to delivering a successful project that supports economic development and sustainability.

Overcoming Complex Hiring Challenges at a Critical Stage

Since September 2023, CSG Talent has partnered with the CEO of Liberty Gold as they’ve advanced a large-scale oxide project through feasibility, permitting, and towards construction. As the project moved into a critical stage, it became clear that building a strong operational leadership team was essential to navigate complex technical requirements, strict regulatory processes, and community engagement.

With a limited talent pool and only one chance to get it right, Liberty Gold recognised the need for a specialist recruitment partner who could handle niche, sensitive searches and deliver senior talent ready to succeed.

A Tailored Process for a Key Hire

Liberty Gold’s priority was securing a senior environmental and regulatory leader to guide the project through complex mine permitting and community engagement. When CSG Talent first contacted themLiberty Gold indicated they weren’t quite ready for the role they had been approached about. But after seeing the profile of another specialist in CSG Talent’s network, they were interested in working together on a different role.

From there, mining recruitment specialist Stephen Hall conducted a detailed search alongside the original candidate, providing a shortlist within two weeks to ensure full market coverage and to give Liberty Gold screened selection of senior mining professionals to choose from.

The process involved extensive conversations to understand the specific challenges the site faced, including engaging with Native American communities, managing consultants, liaising with multiple federal agencies, and even developing a mitigation strategy to protect a threatened species of chicken living in the project area.

Through regular dialogue, CSG Talent ensured all parties were aligned and that the final hire could handle sensitive discussions, environmental reporting, and future legal challenges if required.

Successful Placement and Continued Partnership

The Director of Environment, Sustainability & Regulatory Affairs joined Liberty Gold in June 2024 and has since made a significant impact, helping to advance permitting stages and strengthen communications with local communities and regulators. This placement marked the start of a long-term partnership between Liberty Gold and CSG Talent, proving the value of a dedicated, detail-driven search approach for complex mining projects.

With the first senior placement in place and already delivering results, CSG Talent continues to support Liberty Gold with further roles, including:

  • Director of Metallurgy

  • General Manager of Mining

  • Environmental & Permitting Specialist

With each role, the partnership focuses on building strong operational leadership teams to ensure the project is set up for success through feasibility, construction, and into full production.

For Liberty Gold, having a trusted recruitment partner means more time spent progressing the project and less time lost searching for niche expertise in a highly competitive talent market.
