APD Communications

APD develop key, critical software and infrastructure for the national emergency services. Integrating radio, CCTV, telephony and talk groups onto one screen, their communication technology connects callers and dispatches resources more efficiently. One in every two police forces in the UK use APD control room solutions – this company prides itself on being at the forefront of its field.

CSG Talent began work with APD Communications some years ago, and having already placed multiple candidates, our Technology consultants work in close partnership with them, acting as their primary recruiter.

Recruiting A Highly Specialised Role From A Limited Talent Pool

As such a major technological company, APD have strict criteria when it comes to hiring new team members. Termed ‘GWAGs’ - ‘Geeks With A Goal’ - the company seeks only those candidates who are wholly dedicated to their field, and who see their roles as vocations rather than jobs. APD seek staff that have proven to be passionate both in work and out of it, who are experienced in their market, and who are, most crucially, true experts.

Finding such a high calibre of candidate - and such a specific culture fit - from a limited talent pool was something their HR team struggled to do internally, as standard recruitment methods such as job boards failed to attract the best performers with the culture fit that APD needed.

The Process

APD worked with numerous recruiters prior to CSG, but found the results to be a large number of sub-standard CVs, with searches lacking depth and refinement.

CSG Talent worked on a retained basis with APD, ensuring we dedicated our full resources and attention to the specific brief given. We were asked to source a developer and an SQA Engineer.

Our consultant started with thorough market mapping, and then conducted a direct head-hunt, making sure to reach candidates at the height of their technical field. By making use of our global network of candidates, and pursuing leads from countless references, CSG put together a group of the best technology specialists.

We then carried out two stages of interviews internally, making sure that the final shortlist presented to the company was of the quality they requested.

Throughout this process, our consultant remained in close contact with APD’s lead Hiring Manager. This close relationship meant that APD were kept informed throughout the process.

In a short time frame of three months, your consultant had placed six people with APD and they have all been excellent additions to the team. I’d like to place on record my thanks to my CSG contact and the rest of the team who support him.

The Results

In a three month period, CSG Talent placed six candidates within APD, all in mid-senior level roles, and have since made several more placements.
