UAS Software Engineer

Location: Remote (USA)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

About the Opportunity

We're partnering with an engineering organization seeking an experienced UAS Software Engineer to support the development, integration, and testing of advanced software for uncrewed aerial systems.

This position offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging software projects involving autonomous systems, mission management, and hardware-software integration.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of reliable, high-performance software, collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver solutions for complex operating environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software applications and reusable libraries using C++ and/or Python.

  • Develop and optimize software supporting mission management, navigation, and autonomous system functionality.

  • Integrate software with hardware, sensors, flight control systems, and other embedded technologies.

  • Support software verification and validation through simulation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and system-level testing.

  • Troubleshoot complex software issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement effective solutions.

  • Collaborate with hardware, systems, and test engineers throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Improve software performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.

Key Requirements

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience within UAS, robotics, aerospace, defense, automotive, or other mission-critical environments.

  • Strong programming skills in C++ and/or Python.

  • Experience developing reusable software libraries and integrating software within larger system architectures.

  • Hands-on experience with UAVs, robotics, autonomous systems, or embedded software integration.

  • Familiarity with sensors, navigation systems, flight controllers, or similar technologies.

  • Experience with software testing, simulation, HIL, or system-level validation.

  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and software optimization.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and deliver reliable software solutions.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with MAVLink, PX4, ArduPilot, or Betaflight.

  • Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, or containerized software environments.

  • Experience with autonomous navigation, multi-agent coordination, or distributed systems.

  • Familiarity with geospatial mapping frameworks such as Cesium, Mapbox, or TAK.

  • Understanding of UAV flight dynamics, control systems, or communication networks.

  • Experience developing software for offline or resource-constrained environments.

  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

What's on Offer?

  • Opportunity to contribute to technically challenging aerospace and autonomous systems projects.

  • Exposure to software development, integration, and real-world system testing.

  • Collaboration with experienced multidisciplinary engineering teams.

  • Opportunity for technical ownership, problem-solving, and professional development.
