We're supporting a growing technology business seeking a Test Systems Engineer to develop and improve test infrastructure supporting powertrain and electrical systems development.
This hands-on role combines equipment commissioning, instrumentation, controls integration and laboratory automation. You'll work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver safe, accurate and repeatable testing, taking ownership of equipment performance and laboratory practices.
Design, commission and improve powertrain test rigs and supporting laboratory equipment.
Integrate electrical, mechanical, controls, instrumentation, cooling and safety systems.
Select sensors, signal conditioning and data acquisition equipment.
Develop automated test capabilities and integrate equipment controls.
Establish measurement accuracy through calibration, uncertainty analysis and repeatability studies.
Implement safety interlocks, emergency-stop functions and fault responses.
Troubleshoot complex systems and use root-cause analysis to resolve recurring failures.
Manage equipment maintenance, repairs and upgrades.
Create operating procedures and mentor engineers and technicians in safe operation and measurement techniques.
Work with cross-functional teams and suppliers to translate engineering requirements into practical test solutions.
3+ years' experience developing, commissioning or improving complex test systems.
A degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Strong experience across several of the following:
Electrical, mechanical or controls system integration.
Instrumentation, sensors, signal conditioning and data acquisition.
Controls integration and laboratory automation.
High-voltage safety, interlocks and fault handling.
Calibration, uncertainty analysis and measurement repeatability.
Commissioning, troubleshooting and structured problem-solving.
Experience with Python, LabVIEW, PLCs or comparable automation tools.
Strong communication skills and a practical, collaborative approach.
Relevant backgrounds include powertrain testing, automotive, aerospace, robotics, industrial automation and energy systems.
Take ownership of core test capabilities and influence how a growing engineering team develops and validates complex hardware. You'll solve varied technical challenges and build infrastructure that supports products from development through to production.
