Supply & Commercial Manager
Regional Victoria | Permanent, Full Time
About the company
Our client is the Australian operation of a global, publicly listed ingredients group. They turn by-product streams from the meat processing sector into high-value functional protein ingredients. The products are sold into pet food, livestock feed and aquafeed markets across Australia and internationally. It's a specialised, well-established business backed by a worldwide network of production sites.
The role
This is a broad commercial role reporting to the Managing Director. It covers both sides of the business: securing and managing the raw material supply that feeds the plant, and growing sales of finished products to customers in Australia and export markets. In the near term the focus will lean toward supply. You'll build and manage relationships with meat processing partners, negotiate supply contracts, and make sure the plant is fully and efficiently used. Once that is in place, you'll drive customer growth across key accounts and new market segments.
Key responsibilities
- Negotiate raw material supply agreements and major operational spend, and manage relationships with supply partners through regular site visits.
- Coordinate raw material requirements, including volumes, purchase orders, contract pricing, inventory management and supply reporting.
- Manage actual and forecast inventory levels against budgeted volumes.
- Negotiate sales contracts with new and existing customers, keeping margins in line with spread targets.
- Manage key accounts through visits, product presentations and application support, acting as the technical point of contact for the customer portfolio.
- Find new customers, suppliers and market segments, and work with customer R&D teams to develop tailored solutions and new applications.
- Research the market for price trends and demand, and turn that into commercial recommendations.
- Oversee back-office sales activities, including export documentation and price setting.
- Build a strong working knowledge of the product range: its functional and nutritional properties, processing, food safety and regulatory requirements.
About you
- A degree in animal science, animal nutrition, food technology, agribusiness or a related field.
- Commercial experience in procurement, supply, trading or sales, ideally in meat processing, food ingredients, feed or another B2B commodity setting.
- Confident negotiating on both the buy and sell side, and comfortable working to clear performance measures.
- Hands-on and practical, equally at ease on a processing site or in a customer meeting.
- Analytical and driven by data, with sound commercial judgement.
- Strong relationship skills, credible, and honest in how you do business.
What's on offer
- A broad role with real influence on business performance, reporting directly to the MD.
- Exposure to a global network, with room for personal and career growth.
- A competitive salary package.
