Structural Engineer

Role

An employee-owned structural engineering consultancy is seeking a Florida-licensed Professional Engineer to lead the design and certification of residential and commercial projects across Florida. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer with expertise in wood, masonry, foundations, and framing systems to take ownership of projects from concept through construction support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural design and certification of residential and commercial projects.

  • Prepare structural calculations, details, and construction documents.

  • Design and analyse wood, masonry, concrete, steel, and foundation systems.

  • Produce and review project drawings using AutoCAD.

  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, architects, and internal teams throughout project delivery.

  • Respond to RFIs, review submittals, conduct site visits, and provide construction support.

  • Perform Quality Assurance reviews and oversee technical project delivery.

  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and client expectations.

  • Review engineering specifications, contracts, and design documentation.

  • Mentor junior staff and provide technical leadership where required.

The Successful Candidate

  • Active Florida Professional Engineer (PE) licence.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of structural engineering experience designing and certifying wood and masonry structures.

  • Strong knowledge of Florida Building Codes, International Building Codes, and applicable design standards.

  • Experience with residential and commercial structural projects.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D; Revit experience is advantageous.

  • Experience using RISA-3D and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Wood framing systems

    • Metal plate connected wood trusses

    • Engineered wood products

    • Concrete construction (up to three stories)

    • Shallow, spread, and deep foundations

    • Steel, wood, and masonry structures

  • Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.

  • Self-motivated, accountable, and capable of working independently.
