Senior Scientist - Food Ingredients & Innovation
A growing, innovation-led ingredients business is looking to bring in a Senior Scientist to support R&D and scale-up across food, beverage, and supplement applications.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in the lab, leading projects, and translating technical concepts into commercially viable ingredient solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the scientific roadmap and broader innovation strategy
- Design and execute lab experiments to support product development
- Lead and mentor junior scientists and technicians
- Develop and optimise formulations for nutrients and bioactives
- Work across encapsulation and delivery technologies (e.g. coating, controlled release, emulsions)
- Analyse and interpret experimental data to assess performance and stability
- Maintain accurate documentation, reports, and technical records
- Support development of technical materials, data packages, and documentation
- Assist with pilot trials, scale-up, and process transfer into manufacturing
- Identify formulation or process risks and implement solutions
- Support validation work including shelf life and stability testing
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across innovation, operations, quality, and commercial
- Provide technical support for customer projects and troubleshooting
- Participate in project meetings and innovation reviews
- Maintain lab safety, organisation, and best practices
- Contribute to continuous improvement of lab methods and workflows
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 2-6+ years of experience in ingredients, functional foods, or supplement R&D
- Strong hands-on lab experience in formulation and product development
- Experience with encapsulation, emulsions, powders, or delivery systems preferred
- Strong experimental design and data analysis skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Good problem-solving and critical thinking ability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
