Senior Scientist - Food Ingredients & Innovation

A growing, innovation-led ingredients business is looking to bring in a Senior Scientist to support R&D and scale-up across food, beverage, and supplement applications.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in the lab, leading projects, and translating technical concepts into commercially viable ingredient solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the scientific roadmap and broader innovation strategy
• Design and execute lab experiments to support product development
• Lead and mentor junior scientists and technicians
• Develop and optimise formulations for nutrients and bioactives
• Work across encapsulation and delivery technologies (e.g. coating, controlled release, emulsions)
• Analyse and interpret experimental data to assess performance and stability
• Maintain accurate documentation, reports, and technical records
• Support development of technical materials, data packages, and documentation
• Assist with pilot trials, scale-up, and process transfer into manufacturing
• Identify formulation or process risks and implement solutions
• Support validation work including shelf life and stability testing
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across innovation, operations, quality, and commercial
• Provide technical support for customer projects and troubleshooting
• Participate in project meetings and innovation reviews
• Maintain lab safety, organisation, and best practices
• Contribute to continuous improvement of lab methods and workflows
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
• 2-6+ years of experience in ingredients, functional foods, or supplement R&D
• Strong hands-on lab experience in formulation and product development
• Experience with encapsulation, emulsions, powders, or delivery systems preferred
• Strong experimental design and data analysis skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Good problem-solving and critical thinking ability
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
