Senior Metallurgist (CIP/CIL)

CSG Talent is conducting a confidential search for a Senior Metallurgist on behalf of a Canadian gold producer operating an underground mine in Ontario.

The operation is in an important phase of production ramp-up and plant optimisation. This position offers the opportunity to take genuine ownership of metallurgical performance, influence how the processing plant develops and strengthen the technical capability of a relatively lean site team.

Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist and working closely with the Mill Manager and operations leadership, the Senior Metallurgist will lead the site's day-to-day metallurgical function. This is a hands on, plant-focused position requiring someone who can combine strong technical judgement with practical implementation, operator engagement and team development.

Key responsibilities

• Own metallurgical performance across recovery, throughput, grind size, reagent consumption, circuit stability and product quality.

• Lead, coach and develop metallurgists, metallurgical technicians and refinery personnel.

• Provide functional technical leadership to processing operators and frontline supervisors.

• Maintain accurate metallurgical accounting, production reconciliation and performance reporting.

• Develop and improve mass balances, water balances, sampling plans and assay QA/QC systems.

• Investigate plant-performance issues and translate findings into clear, sustainable operating improvements.

• Conduct plant surveys, metallurgical test work, ore-variability studies, blend assessments and reagent trials.

• Support optimisation across crushing, grinding, gravity recovery, cyanide leaching, CIL/CIP, elution, electrowinning, refining and detoxification.

• Identify and deliver opportunities to increase recovery and throughput while reducing reagent, power and consumable costs.

• Work closely with geology, mine planning, maintenance, laboratory and production teams on ore blending, production forecasts and operating strategy.

• Provide metallurgical input into Life-of-Mine planning, capital decisions and throughput and recovery forecasts.

• Develop technical justifications for capital projects and manage initiatives from concept and Management of Change through implementation and benefits verification.

• Strengthen operating discipline by converting technical improvements into procedures, training and frontline operating practices.

• Maintain reliable processing data and ensure investigations, test results and operational learnings are properly documented and accessible.

• Support incident investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective-action implementation.

• Champion safe, environmentally responsible and compliant metallurgical practices.

Candidate profile

The successful candidate will bring:

• A degree in metallurgy, mineral processing, chemical engineering or a closely related discipline.

• A minimum of six years' experience within gold processing operations.

• At least two years operating at Senior Metallurgist level, or clear evidence of progressive responsibility towards this level.

• Strong hands-on experience within a gold plant using cyanide leaching and CIL or CIP.

• Practical knowledge of grinding, gravity recovery, elution, electrowinning and gold-room or refinery operations.

• Demonstrated ownership of metallurgical accounting, reconciliation, sampling and plant-performance reporting.

• A track record of delivering measurable improvements in recovery, throughput, plant stability or operating costs.

• Experience leading or mentoring metallurgists, technicians, refinery personnel or processing operators.

• The credibility to work directly with operations teams and turn technical analysis into practical action.

• Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving and change-management capabilities.

• A practical and resourceful approach suited to a growing operation and a lean site team.

Experience with plant commissioning, operational ramp-up, brownfield expansion or processing-plant debottlenecking would be particularly valuable.
