CSG is partnering with a confidential federal consulting client to hire a Senior Java Engineer to support large-scale data governance and metadata platforms within a mission-critical government environment.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of enterprise Java development, metadata management, and data governance automation, contributing to systems that directly support federal data initiatives.
You will play a key role in designing, developing, and enhancing enterprise-grade applications and integrations that power data cataloguing, metadata ingestion, and lineage automation. Working closely with data governance, architecture, and engineering teams, you will help modernise and automate how data is managed across complex environments.
Design and develop Java-based backend services and APIs to support enterprise data platforms
Build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices using modern Java frameworks (Spring Boot, Quarkus, etc.)
Integrate with enterprise data governance platforms via APIs and SDKs
Develop and customise workflow automation to support metadata management and governance processes
Support and enhance metadata ingestion pipelines, including batch and event-driven processing
Collaborate with UI developers on web-based dashboards and user interfaces
Optimise applications for performance, scalability, and security
Implement secure authentication and authorisation mechanisms (OAuth, SAML, LDAP)
Work within Agile delivery teams, contributing to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices
8+ years of experience in Java application development within enterprise environments
Strong experience building REST APIs and microservices
Hands-on experience integrating with data platforms, catalogs, or governance tools
Solid understanding of metadata, data governance, and lineage concepts
Experience with ETL/ELT or data ingestion pipelines
Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies
Experience working in secure or regulated environments
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
Experience with Collibra (APIs, integrations, workflows, or ingestion tooling)
Exposure to workflow engines (e.g. BPMN-based tools)
Experience with Kafka, NiFi, or cloud-native data services
Background working on federal or government programs
Active or prior DHS clearance
Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
Work on high-impact federal data initiatives
