Senior Electrical Engineer
Location: CA, USA | On-site
About the Opportunity
We are partnering with an innovative space technology company developing next-generation satellite systems and infrastructure. As the organization continues to scale its engineering capabilities, they are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to take technical ownership of high-voltage power electronics for satellite propulsion systems.
This is a hands-on senior engineering position with responsibility spanning initial architecture and circuit design through prototyping, qualification, spacecraft integration, and production. You'll work closely with mechanical, software, avionics, and subsystem engineers to develop reliable, efficient, and manufacturable flight hardware for demanding space environments.
What You'll Do
- Own the architecture and detailed design of a high-voltage power electronics unit, including topology, component selection, and PCB design.
- Design high-voltage DC-DC converters, including phase-shifted full bridge or similar topologies, optimized for efficiency, mass, and reliability.
- Develop control electronics for regulation, sequencing, telemetry, and fault protection.
- Perform electrical, thermal, and radiation analysis to validate designs for the space environment.
- Develop and execute test plans across breadboard, engineering model, and flight hardware.
- Lead schematic capture and collaborate on PCB layout for high-voltage, high-power flight electronics.
- Drive component selection and qualification, including radiation-tolerant and high-reliability components.
- Troubleshoot and debug power electronics throughout the development lifecycle.
- Develop qualification and acceptance test procedures and associated hardware.
- Support integration with wider spacecraft avionics and electrical systems.
- Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) as designs transition from prototype into sustained production.
- Define and maintain technical requirements, interface control documents, and verification artifacts.
What We're Looking For
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of power electronics design experience, with demonstrated ownership from initial concept through hardware bring-up and testing.
- Strong understanding of switched-mode power conversion, isolated DC-DC converter topologies, and closed-loop control.
- Experience designing high-voltage and/or high-power electronics.
- Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB design tools.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Ability to work on-site in California.
Desirable Experience
Experience in one or more of the following would be highly valuable:
- Spacecraft power conditioning or power conversion units.
- High-reliability aerospace or space electronics.
- Radiation effects and radiation-tolerant component selection.
- Plasma or other nonlinear high-voltage loads.
- Magnetics design for high-frequency power converters.
- EMI/EMC design and mitigation.
- Space hardware standards and qualification processes, including NASA, MIL-STD, or ECSS.
- Hardware integration, assembly, and environmental testing.
- Embedded control or firmware for power electronics.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to take genuine design authority over a critical piece of spacecraft hardware, rather than owning only one stage of the development process. You'll have the chance to take a high-voltage power electronics system from early breadboard and architecture through flight qualification, spacecraft integration, and production, while working alongside a highly technical multidisciplinary engineering team.
