Senior Data Center Construction Manager

Location: Regional / On-site at multiple project locations
Position Type: Full-time

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead the development and delivery of data center projects across the region. This role will oversee all aspects of construction from initial site due diligence and permitting through design, ground-up construction, commissioning, and turnover to operations. The position requires a hands-on leader who spends the majority of their time on-site, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and on budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities

Project Oversight & Field Leadership

  • Direct and manage all construction phases of mission-critical data center projects, including tenant improvements and transition to operations.

  • Spend majority of time on-site providing leadership and supervising contractors, consultants, and internal teams.

  • Implement best practices for safety and ensure all work complies with legal and regulatory requirements.

Construction Management & Administration

  • Lead permitting, approvals, and coordination with government agencies and utilities.

  • Manage relationships with architects, engineers, contractors, and other consultants.

  • Oversee design and construction plans, budget estimates, and cash flow reporting.

  • Negotiate contracts, change orders, and ensure compliance with contract terms.

  • Monitor project costs, maintain accurate job cost accounting, and prepare regular status reports.

  • Develop detailed project schedules, track milestones, and provide weekly progress updates.

  • Support equipment procurement and coordinate commissioning activities.

  • Seek cost efficiencies through innovative approaches and alternative methods.

Technical & Strategic Support

  • Assist with due diligence for potential sites, including site assessments and feasibility studies.

  • Provide technical guidance on power infrastructure, mechanical, electrical, and MEP systems.

  • Review design and construction plans to ensure alignment with project requirements and quality standards.

  • Advise teams on mission-critical equipment delivery and installation methods.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline preferred.

  • Minimum 8 years of construction and real estate development experience, with at least 4 years in data center or mission-critical projects.

  • Proven experience with high-voltage electrical infrastructure, substations, or switching centers.

  • Strong knowledge of building and land development processes, permitting, and governmental approvals.

  • Expertise in MEP systems for mission-critical facilities, including electrical topologies, cooling, fire suppression, BMS, and security systems.

  • Skilled in contract negotiation, cost analysis, project budgeting, and scheduling.

  • Excellent leadership, team-building, and communication skills; public speaking experience required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, Bluebeam, and other project management software; familiarity with Yardi a plus.

  • Safety certifications preferred (OSHA 10/30).

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

  • Experience with sustainable construction practices and brownfield development is advantageous.
