Senior Commissioning Engineer

An established engineering contractor delivering high-voltage grid connection, substation and renewable energy infrastructure projects is seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer to join its team in Brisbane.

The organisation specialises in supporting the integration of large-scale renewable energy projects into the transmission and distribution network, providing engineering, commissioning and technical advisory services across the full project lifecycle.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex HV substation and grid connection projects, ensuring the safe and successful commissioning of primary plant and secondary systems.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer, you will take responsibility for the delivery and coordination of substation commissioning activities, ensuring systems are tested, integrated and brought into service safely and efficiently.

You will work closely with engineering teams, contractors and network operators, providing technical expertise, commissioning leadership and project coordination across multiple HV grid connection projects.

The role is well suited to engineers who enjoy a combination of technical problem solving, site-based commissioning work and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Delivery

• Lead and coordinate commissioning activities for HV substations and grid connection projects

• Manage testing and commissioning works delivered by internal teams and external contractors

• Develop and implement commissioning plans, outage plans and inspection & test plans

• Oversee the staging and integration of primary plant and secondary systems

• Review primary and secondary engineering designs to ensure commissioning readiness

• Provide technical advice relating to commissioning, energisation and operational integration

• Manage technical interfaces between new infrastructure and the existing network

Team Development

• Provide technical support and guidance to commissioning engineers

• Mentor and develop engineers through on-site training and knowledge sharing

• Assist with onboarding and development of new commissioning personnel

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure commissioning works are delivered in accordance with safety standards, regulatory requirements and client procedures

• Support risk assessments and ensure effective risk mitigation during commissioning activities

• Promote strong safety leadership across project teams and contractors

About You

You will be an experienced engineer with a strong background in HV commissioning and grid connection projects within the power or renewable energy sector.

Key attributes include:

• Experience delivering complex HV substation or grid connection commissioning projects

• Strong understanding of commissioning processes for primary plant and protection/control systems

• Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders including contractors, network operators and project teams

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

• Solid understanding of risk management and quality assurance principles

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

• Eligible for membership with Engineers Australia

• RPEQ registration

• Current Australian driver's licence

Desirable Experience

• Electrical Fitter / Mechanic or restricted electrical licence

• High Voltage switching certification

• Experience working on renewable energy grid connection projects
