Senior Avionics Engineer - Advanced UAS

Location: Northern Virginia (On-site/Hybrid)
Employment Type: Full-Time

We're partnering with an aerospace company developing advanced unmanned aircraft systems to recruit a Senior Avionics Engineer.

This opportunity offers broad technical responsibility across electrical design, avionics integration and hands-on testing as the aircraft progresses towards flight readiness.

The role

You'll bring strong electrical fundamentals and practical troubleshooting skills to a multidisciplinary engineering team, working across aircraft power distribution, sensors, actuators, communications and test systems.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting electrical architecture, DC power distribution, circuit sizing, protection and signal interfaces.

  • Selecting avionics and electrical components, working with harness designers on schematics, installation and integration.

  • Defining and executing component tests, troubleshooting issues during engine testing, hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILSIM) and system integration.

  • Designing, assembling and commissioning test setups for propulsion, landing gear and other aircraft subsystems.

  • Selecting sensors and data acquisition equipment, configuring DAQ systems using commercial software and Python.

  • Leading power distribution unit testing, from test specifications and instrumentation through execution.

  • Contributing to safety analyses, regulatory documentation, autopilot supplier evaluation and flight test preparation.

What we're looking for

  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Experience developing and integrating aircraft or complex vehicle electrical and avionics systems.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical fundamentals, DC power distribution, circuit protection and communication interfaces.

  • Experience interpreting and developing schematics, defining test procedures and using laboratory equipment.

  • Practical troubleshooting experience across electronics, wiring, sensors and actuators.

  • Familiarity with CAN, RS-485, ARINC-429 or comparable communication buses.

  • The ability to take ownership of technical problems and work effectively across engineering and manufacturing teams.

Experience with HILSIM, instrumentation and DAQ, Python, aerospace safety analysis, RF/telemetry or autopilot integration would be beneficial. Familiarity with Capital is useful; direct operation of harness design or routing CAD tools is not required.

Why join?

You'll influence aircraft development through direct involvement in design decisions, laboratory testing, integration and flight readiness. Working closely with senior engineering leadership, you'll have scope to contribute across multiple aircraft systems and see the impact of your work.

Occasional travel to integration and flight test locations is required. Applicants must be U.S. Persons; no security clearance is required.
