Scientist - Food Ingredients & Innovation
A growing, innovation-led ingredients business is looking to bring in a Scientist to support R&D across food, beverage, and supplement applications.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone early in their career who enjoys working in the lab, getting involved in formulation, and seeing projects through from concept to commercialisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support projects from initial customer brief through to commercial launch
- Develop and refine ingredient formulations to meet performance and cost targets
- Carry out lab and pilot trials (including spray drying, blending, and applications work)
- Troubleshoot formulations and adjust based on raw material or process challenges
- Generate nutritional data, product specs, and supporting documentation
- Manage ingredient stock and maintain lab materials
- Handle sample requests and support urgent project timelines
- Work closely with Sales, Production, Supply Chain, QA, and Operations teams
- Communicate project updates clearly to internal and external stakeholders
- Build relationships with customers, distributors, and suppliers
- Use internal systems to track projects and manage data
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised lab environment
- Support internal training and knowledge-sharing when needed
Requirements
- Degree in Food Science or a related field
- 2-5 years' experience in product development within food or ingredients
- Hands-on lab or pilot plant experience
- Strong understanding of dry ingredient systems and food applications
- Able to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines
- Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
- Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience with spray drying would be an advantage
- Exposure to functional foods, sports nutrition, or supplements is a plus
- Some awareness of international regulations would be beneficial
