Location: Zambia preferred | Regional travel across Africa
Industry: Mining / Mineral Processing / Consumables
An established global supplier to the mining industry is looking to appoint a Sales Manager - Africa to accelerate its growth across one of its most strategically important developing markets.
The organisation has a significant global footprint and an established position within mineral processing and mining consumables. Africa, however, represents a substantial untapped opportunity, particularly across Zambia, the DRC and the wider Copperbelt.
This is a highly commercial, hands-on position for someone who enjoys developing new business, building relationships directly with mining operations and turning market opportunity into revenue.
This is not a people-management role. The priority is finding a genuine hunter who wants to be in front of customers, on mine sites and actively developing the market.
Reporting into senior commercial leadership, you will take responsibility for identifying and developing new business opportunities across key African mining markets.
Key responsibilities will include:
Develop and execute a commercial growth strategy across Zambia and surrounding mining markets.
Build relationships with mine operators, procurement teams, metallurgical/process teams and other key stakeholders.
Identify and convert new business opportunities across both existing and prospective mining customers.
Increase market penetration across the Copperbelt and wider African mining sector.
Spend significant time visiting mine sites and engaging directly with customers.
Develop a strong pipeline of opportunities and maintain visibility over future projects and customer requirements.
Position the company's products and solutions against established competitors.
Work collaboratively with technical, operational and commercial colleagues globally.
Identify opportunities to cross-sell complementary products and solutions across the wider group.
Provide market intelligence around competitors, projects, pricing and customer activity.
Take ownership of commercial performance and revenue growth within the territory.
We are particularly interested in individuals who demonstrate a strong new-business development mentality.
You are likely to have:
Proven commercial experience within the mining and mineral processing industry.
An established network across Zambia, the Copperbelt or broader African mining markets.
A track record of developing new customers and growing revenue.
Experience selling directly into mine sites and mining operators.
Strong understanding of how purchasing decisions are made within mining operations.
The independence and drive required to develop a relatively untapped territory.
Willingness to travel extensively and spend significant time with customers.
Strong communication, relationship-building and negotiation skills.
Technical expertise alone will not define success in this position.
The successful candidate will be someone who is:
Commercially hungry
Proactive and entrepreneurial
Comfortable opening doors and developing relationships from scratch
Highly customer-facing
Self-motivated and accountable
Comfortable operating independently
Motivated by winning new business and building market share
Zambia is strongly preferred, reflecting the strategic importance of the Copperbelt and the organisation's growth ambitions within the market.
Candidates elsewhere in Southern or Central Africa may be considered for an exceptional profile.
The position will involve significant regional travel, including regular customer and mine-site visits across markets such as Zambia, DRC and South Africa.
This is an opportunity to join an established international mining business while taking ownership of a market with considerable room for growth.
Rather than inheriting a mature territory, you will have the opportunity to build the market, develop strategic customer relationships and directly influence the organisation's growth across Africa.
For someone who enjoys creating opportunities rather than simply managing existing accounts, this offers significant scope to make an impact.
