Position Summary
The Resource Geologist is responsible for supporting mineral resource evaluation, geological modelling, resource estimation, and underground mine geology activities within a high-performing underground mining operation.
This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate geological interpretations, resource models, and resource estimates while collaborating closely with production geology, technical services, mine planning, and drilling teams. The role contributes to both short- and medium-term mine planning through geological analysis, resource classification, grade control support, and ongoing resource development initiatives.
The Resource Geologist also provides technical mentorship to geologists and technicians while helping drive best practices in resource modelling, data management, and geological evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
Resource Modelling & Estimation
- Develop and maintain geological wireframes, interpretations, and resource models.
- Support mineral resource estimation and resource classification activities.
- Conduct geological and statistical analysis to improve confidence in resource models.
- Prepare and maintain Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves (MRMR) documentation.
- Ensure resource estimates are developed using industry best practices and company standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of resource modelling methodologies and workflows.
Geological Analysis & Mine Support
- Monitor production performance, recovery, dilution, and reconciliation metrics.
- Provide geological support for short- and medium-range mine planning activities.
- Collaborate with production geology teams to ensure geological information is available for operational decision-making.
- Review and interpret geological data to support orebody understanding and resource growth initiatives.
- Participate in technical reviews and planning meetings to establish geological priorities.
Drilling & Resource Development
- Support underground diamond drilling programs and resource definition initiatives.
- Assist with drill program planning, targeting, execution, and interpretation.
- Work closely with drilling contractors and geological teams to ensure quality data collection.
- Evaluate drilling results and integrate findings into geological models and resource estimates.
- Support ongoing exploration and resource expansion opportunities.
Geological Data Management & QA/QC
- Ensure geological mapping, sampling, core logging, and grade control activities meet established standards.
- Maintain accurate geological databases and supporting documentation.
- Support QA/QC programs and data validation processes.
- Ensure geological information is collected, stored, and reported in accordance with company procedures.
- Promote best practices in geological data management and resource evaluation.
Team Development & Technical Leadership
- Provide mentoring, coaching, and technical support to geologists and geological technicians.
- Assist in developing technical competencies across the geology team.
- Promote collaboration between resource geology, production geology, and mine planning functions.
- Share best practices and contribute to ongoing professional development initiatives.
Safety Leadership
- Demonstrate and promote a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.
- Support departmental safety initiatives and site-wide safety programs.
- Participate in hazard identification, risk assessments, and incident investigations as required.
- Ensure geological activities are conducted in compliance with site safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Education
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Geological Sciences, Geological Engineering, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
Preferred:
- Additional training in resource estimation, geostatistics, or geological modelling.
Experience
Required:
- Minimum 10 years of experience within underground mining environments.
- Experience in resource modelling, geological interpretation, and resource estimation.
- Experience supporting production geology and mine planning activities.
- Strong understanding of underground orebody evaluation and resource classification.
Preferred:
- Experience within underground gold mining operations.
- Experience mentoring and developing technical geology teams.
- Exposure to resource reporting and reserve documentation processes.
