Heavy Transportation Project Executive

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Heavy Transportation Project Executive to lead the successful delivery of large-scale transportation and heavy civil construction projects. This individual will provide executive oversight from preconstruction through project completion, while leading project teams, managing client relationships, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience with highway, interstate, bridge, roadway, interchange, DOT, and other major transportation infrastructure projects, along with a proven ability to manage complex construction operations and develop strong relationships with public and private-sector clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership and oversight for large-scale heavy transportation and infrastructure projects.
• Lead project teams consisting of Project Managers, Superintendents, Estimators, Engineers, and other field and office personnel.
• Oversee projects from preconstruction and estimating through final completion and closeout.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with owners, DOT representatives, municipalities, engineers, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
• Establish project objectives, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and execution strategies.
• Monitor project financial performance, including budgets, cost controls, forecasting, billing, and profitability.
• Provide leadership on change orders, claims, contract negotiations, and risk management.
• Review project schedules and ensure teams remain aligned with contractual milestones and completion dates.
• Ensure compliance with company safety standards, project specifications, environmental requirements, and applicable regulations.
• Identify project risks and develop strategies to mitigate schedule, cost, contractual, and operational challenges.
• Participate in business development efforts, client presentations, pursuits, and proposal development.
• Help identify and pursue opportunities with DOTs, municipalities, transportation agencies, and private owners.
• Mentor and develop Project Managers and other project leadership personnel.
• Promote a culture focused on safety, accountability, quality, teamwork, and operational excellence.
• Work closely with senior leadership to develop long-term operational and strategic objectives.

Project Experience

Ideal candidates will have experience managing or providing executive oversight on projects such as:

• Highways and interstates
• Roadway reconstruction and widening
• Major interchanges
• Bridges and bridge rehabilitation
• Toll roads
• Airport and transportation infrastructure
• Mass transit infrastructure
• Design-build transportation projects
• DOT and public-sector infrastructure
• Large-scale earthwork and site development
• Drainage, utilities, and underground infrastructure
• Multi-phase transportation programs

Qualifications

• 10+ years of heavy civil/transportation construction experience, with progressive leadership responsibility.
• Demonstrated experience leading large, complex transportation projects.
• Strong understanding of DOT construction, contract administration, project controls, and construction operations.
• Proven financial management and project forecasting experience.
• Experience managing projects ranging from $50M to $500M+ preferred.
• Strong knowledge of scheduling, estimating, cost control, change orders, and claims.
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and client-management skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
• PE, CCM, or other relevant professional certifications are a plus.
• Ability to travel to project sites as required.
