Mechanical Engineer - Ball Screws
Location: Michigan (On-site)
About the Role
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of precision ball screw assemblies used in aerospace, defence, medical, and industrial applications. You'll work across the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through to manufacturing support and validation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design precision ball screw components and assemblies.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Perform engineering calculations including load, fatigue, stiffness, backlash, friction, torque, and thermal analysis.
- Support FEA, prototype development, testing, and validation activities.
- Analyse test results, investigate failures, and recommend design improvements.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to improve design for manufacture and support engineering changes.
- Prepare technical reports and participate in design reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 2-5 years' mechanical engineering experience.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks or similar).
- Strong understanding of mechanical design, machine elements, and GD&T.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience with ball screw, linear motion, or electromechanical actuator design.
- Knowledge of FEA, reliability engineering, precision manufacturing, or aerospace standards.
- Experience with prototype testing and product validation.
