Mechanical Design Engineer | Special Purpose Machinery

An opportunity has opened for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established Australian-owned engineering business specialising in bespoke machinery and automation solutions.

This is not an off-the-shelf engineering environment. Projects are customised around individual customer requirements, giving you the opportunity to solve technical challenges and take designs from initial concept through to manufacture, testing and delivery.

With a strong pipeline of upcoming projects, the business is looking for someone who enjoys being hands-on, working collaboratively and seeing their designs come to life on the factory floor.

The Role

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you'll work as part of an experienced engineering team and collaborate closely with manufacturing, assembly, electrical, suppliers and customers.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing customised mechanical concepts and solutions
• Taking projects from concept and detailed design through manufacture, testing and delivery
• Producing mechanical designs using SolidWorks
• Working with pneumatic and motion control devices and systems
• Collaborating with mechanical, automation and electrical engineers
• Working closely with manufacturing and assembly teams
• Liaising with suppliers to select appropriate hardware and components
• Working with customers to understand requirements and develop practical solutions
• Managing multiple projects, priorities and deadlines simultaneously
• Maintaining accurate engineering and project documentation
• Identifying practical and creative solutions to engineering challenges

This is a hands-on position where you'll have exposure to the full project lifecycle rather than sitting purely within a design function.

What We're Looking For

• Qualified Mechanical Engineer or Mechatronics Engineer
• Experience within special purpose machinery, automation, packaging equipment or a similar environment
• Strong SolidWorks experience
• Experience with PDM Vault would be advantageous
• Understanding of pneumatic and motion control systems
• Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong time management and organisational skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Comfortable working within a hands-on engineering and manufacturing environment
• Self-motivated with a practical engineering mindset
• Someone looking for a long-term opportunity and wanting to become part of an established team
