The Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading protein manufacturer for a Maintenance Supervisor to join their engineering team at a large-scale pork processing facility.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced maintenance professional to take on a hands-on leadership role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising maintenance activities, improving equipment reliability, and supporting operational performance while ensuring the highest standards of safety, food quality, and efficiency.

The Role

As Maintenance Supervisor, you will oversee the day-to-day execution of maintenance operations, leading a team of engineers and technicians to ensure equipment and facilities are maintained to the highest standards. Working closely with production and site leadership teams, you will play a key role in maximizing uptime, reducing downtime, and driving continuous improvement across the facility.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Supervise and coordinate daily maintenance activities across production and processing areas.
  • Ensure the timely completion of planned preventive maintenance (PPM) schedules.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and coordinate rapid response to equipment breakdowns.
  • Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring failures.
  • Support reliability initiatives focused on improving equipment performance and reducing downtime.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of maintenance technicians and engineers.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage shift coverage, work assignments, and maintenance priorities.
  • Support training and development programs to enhance technical capabilities within the team.

Operational Support

  • Partner with production teams to ensure equipment availability and efficient plant operations.
  • Support processing, packaging, refrigeration, utilities, and material handling systems.
  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinate contractor activities and ensure work is completed safely and effectively.

Safety, Compliance & Food Safety

  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety regulations and site procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety, GMP, and sanitation requirements within a regulated food manufacturing environment.
  • Support site audits and inspections, ensuring maintenance documentation is accurate and audit-ready.
  • Champion safe working practices and promote a strong safety culture across the department.

Continuous Improvement

  • Utilize maintenance KPIs to monitor performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through improved maintenance practices and asset management.
  • Contribute to long-term reliability and asset lifecycle planning.

About You

  • Previous experience in a Maintenance Supervisor, Engineering Supervisor, or Lead Engineer position within manufacturing.
  • Food manufacturing experience preferred, with pork, meat, protein, or FMCG experience highly desirable.
  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical maintenance background.
  • Experience managing preventive maintenance systems and maintenance planning.
  • Working knowledge of food safety, GMP, and health and safety requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment and prioritize competing demands.
