Head of Maintenance

Job Summary

The Head of Maintenance is responsible for directing, managing, and coordinating all maintenance projects, functions, and initiatives across production facilities. This role oversees utilities, facilities, and operational maintenance teams to ensure optimal equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and retain a high-performing team of technical and maintenance professionals.
  • Coordinate the installation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of production equipment to maximise efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Support managers and supervisors in the effective planning and execution of maintenance activities and contractor oversight.
  • Drive maintenance optimisation initiatives through strategic short- and long-term planning.
  • Review team performance, identify development opportunities, and implement training and improvement plans.
  • Establish and maintain maintenance procedures, technical standards, and operational best practices.
  • Provide engineering expertise and leadership for preventive maintenance programmes, scheduling, and workforce training.
  • Monitor equipment reliability, maintenance completion rates, and downtime performance through KPI reporting and analysis.
  • Maintain effective control of spare parts inventory to ensure operational readiness and minimise disruption.
  • Manage maintenance schedules and work orders to optimise resource allocation and align with production priorities.
  • Oversee maintenance budgets and ensure spending remains within approved financial targets.
  • Deliver technical guidance and cross-functional support to Maintenance, Production, Sanitation, and Quality teams.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by proactively identifying and addressing workplace hazards.
  • Encourage a motivated, high-performing team environment focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Partner with Human Resources on recruitment, employee development, performance management, and workplace relations.
