Position Summary

The Project Geology Manager is responsible for the leadership, management, and strategic direction of all geological activities supporting an underground gold development project in Canada.

This position oversees resource evaluation, geological modelling, exploration targeting, definition drilling, and resource estimation activities while leading a team of geologists, technicians, contractors, and external consultants. The role works closely with Engineering, Technical Services, Project Development, and Exploration teams to support project studies, mine design, Life of Mine planning, and long-term resource growth initiatives.

The Project Geology Manager plays a critical role in advancing the project from development through future operations by ensuring geological models, resource estimates, and exploration programs are executed to the highest technical and reporting standards.

Key Responsibilities

Geological Leadership & Resource Development

  • Lead all geological activities supporting the project, including resource modelling, estimation, target generation, and exploration programs.
  • Develop geological strategies that support project advancement, resource growth, and future mining operations.
  • Establish technical standards, procedures, and best practices across the geology function.
  • Provide technical leadership in geological interpretation, resource evaluation, and underground deposit modelling.
  • Support interdisciplinary technical reviews and strategic project planning initiatives.

Resource Modelling & Estimation

  • Oversee geological modelling, wireframing, and resource estimation activities.
  • Ensure mineral resource block models comply with applicable reporting standards and industry best practices.
  • Evaluate geological data and resource models to support mine planning, project studies, and economic evaluations.
  • Support reserve optimization and mine design initiatives through close collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Review geological risks and uncertainties and develop mitigation strategies.

Exploration & Drill Program Management

  • Develop and oversee exploration, target generation, and resource definition programs.
  • Lead planning and execution of underground and surface diamond drilling campaigns.
  • Review historical and current geological datasets to identify opportunities for resource expansion.
  • Ensure exploration programs align with project objectives and resource classification requirements.
  • Manage drilling contractors and geological service providers.

Technical Services & Project Support

  • Work closely with Engineering and Technical Services teams to support:
    • Scoping Studies
    • Pre-Feasibility Studies
    • Feasibility Studies
    • Life of Mine Planning
  • Provide geological input into mine design, sequencing, and production planning.
  • Support geotechnical and hydrogeological evaluations impacting mine development.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and resource documentation for senior leadership review.

Data Management & QA/QC

  • Ensure geological data collection, validation, storage, and reporting meet company and industry standards.
  • Maintain robust QA/QC systems and continuously improve geological data management processes.
  • Oversee database integrity and geological documentation.
  • Ensure historical and current geological information is accurately maintained and accessible.

Budgeting & Project Management

  • Develop and manage annual geology and exploration budgets.
  • Monitor project expenditures and ensure efficient allocation of resources.
  • Manage external consultants, drilling contractors, and geological service providers.
  • Support long-term project planning and resource development strategies.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing geology team.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and technical development for geologists and technicians.
  • Establish clear goals, accountability measures, and performance expectations.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit and retain top geological talent.

Safety Leadership

  • Champion a strong safety culture across all geological activities.
  • Ensure compliance with site safety standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote safe execution of field programs, drilling activities, and contractor management.
  • Participate in risk assessments, incident investigations, and continuous safety improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Education

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Geological Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) designation.

Preferred:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in Geology, Mining, or related technical disciplines.

Experience

Required:

  • 10+ years of progressive geological experience within underground mining environments.
  • Significant experience in resource estimation, geological modelling, and mineral resource evaluation.
  • Experience leading geological teams and managing technical professionals.
  • Experience supporting project studies, mine planning, and resource development initiatives.

Preferred:

  • Experience within underground gold mining operations.
  • Experience supporting project development, feasibility studies, or mine start-up activities.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary project teams.
