General Manager - Construction Equipment - West Texas

I am recruiting on behalf of a highly reputable, privately owned construction equipment dealership for a General Manager to lead one of its largest and most important locations in West Texas.

The operation is well established, has a strong team in place, and represents a leading equipment manufacturer. The opportunity is to build on that foundation by strengthening accountability, developing the leadership team, protecting the branch's customer relationships, and continuing its growth.

The Role

The General Manager will have full responsibility for the financial and operational performance of the branch, including:

  • Full profit and loss responsibility for the location
  • Leadership of equipment sales, rental, parts, service, and operational functions
  • Development and performance management of department leaders and their teams
  • Preparation and management of annual budgets, forecasts, and branch reporting
  • Oversight of branch expenditure, purchasing, invoicing, and financial controls
  • Management of equipment inventory, rental fleet performance, and asset utilisation
  • Development of market coverage, customer engagement, and growth strategies
  • Coordination between departments to improve productivity and customer service
  • Responsibility for branch safety, compliance, and operational standards
  • Close collaboration with senior leadership and surrounding branch locations

The successful individual will be expected to lead through their managers rather than become buried in the day-to-day detail. They will need to understand the numbers, challenge performance, support their people, and maintain a visible presence with employees and customers.

Candidate Profile

The client is looking for a strong leader of people with a track record of building trust, creating accountability, and developing teams.

Suitable candidates may have held titles such as:

  • General Manager
  • Branch Manager
  • Sales Manager
  • Regional Manager
  • District Manager
  • Operations Manager

Experience within construction equipment would be ideal, although backgrounds in equipment rental, material handling, cranes, aggregates, agricultural equipment, industrial equipment, or another service-led distribution business will also be considered.

The successful candidate should offer:

  • Previous responsibility for a profit centre or sizeable branch operation
  • Strong financial and commercial understanding, including P&L and budget management
  • Experience leading managers across multiple business functions
  • A record of improving performance while retaining and developing good people
  • Strong customer relationship and market-development skills

Compensation and Benefits

The package will be tailored to the experience and scope of the successful candidate and is expected to include:

  • Base salary
  • Quarterly performance-based bonus
  • Company vehicle or vehicle allowance
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company contribution
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage
  • Relocation assistance where required

This is a rare opportunity to take responsibility for a substantial, successful heavy equipment operation and play a central role in its long-term development.

All conversations and applications will be handled in strict confidence.
