Core Focus: 80% Leadership, Mentorship & Operations / 20% Hands-on Design
Are you a mid-career Civil or Structural Engineer ready to step out of the heavy production grind and take ownership of a team?
Founded in the early 90s, our client is a well-established engineering consulting firm who has built a reputation for technical excellence and reliability. They are seeking an Engineering Manager to run their Alexandria headquarters, serve as the primary technical mentor for a dedicated team of six junior engineers, and ensure our high standards of project execution are maintained.
This is a pivotal leadership role designed for an engineer who thrives on coaching talent and driving operational success, while still keeping their hands in design roughly 20% of the time.
Lead & Mentor: Act as the primary technical guide for a bright team of ~6 junior and mid-level engineers, reviewing their work and fostering their professional growth.
Run Daily Operations: Oversee engineering workflows, manage schedules, and ensure all deliverables are completed accurately, safely, and on time.
Keep a Hand in Design: Dedicate about 20% of your time to hands-on civil and light structural design, utilizing specialized industry software.
Partner with Leadership: Act as the vital bridge between the production team and executive leadership, collaborating directly with the President on high-level strategy.
The Credentials: Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's is a plus). A valid Professional Engineer (PE) license is required (Texas PE or immediate reciprocity in Louisiana).
The Experience: Roughly 8 to 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, showing you are ready for a definitive management step.
Technical & Software Domain: A strong background in civil or light structural engineering. Experience with utility infrastructure, power delivery, or substation design is highly preferred. Hands-on familiarity with PCAD and PSL-Pole is a distinct advantage.
Communication: Exceptional English communication skills, with a proven track record of leading project meetings and writing clear technical reports.
If you are ready to transition into a true operational leadership role where your mentorship shapes the future of an established firm, we want to hear from you.
