Embedded Software Engineer 12-Month Contract


Location: Long Beach, CA
Rate: $70-$90/hr
Contract: 12-month rolling engagement

Role Overview


We are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to support the design, development, integration, testing and maintenance of embedded software for complex, safety-conscious systems.


You will work closely with hardware, systems and software teams to translate requirements into robust embedded software solutions, support hardware/software integration, troubleshoot system-level issues and contribute throughout the full software development life cycle.


This is a hands-on role suited to an engineer comfortable working close to the hardware in a regulated or technically complex environment.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, or 8+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience with Ada, C/C++, Python, Java, or comparable object-oriented and scripting languages
  • Experience working across Linux, real-time operating systems and Windows
  • Hands-on experience with compilers, debuggers, bus analyzers, logic analyzers and other laboratory/test equipment
  • Strong embedded systems experience
  • Experience with software requirements, traceability and verification
  • Strong software troubleshooting, debugging and root-cause analysis capability
  • Experience integrating embedded software with hardware platforms

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, debug and maintain embedded software for complex hardware systems
  • Review customer and system requirements and translate them into software designs and technical solutions
  • Develop and optimize software for specialized embedded hardware platforms
  • Integrate embedded software with hardware components and support system bring-up
  • Perform software testing, debugging and root-cause analysis
  • Analyze system performance and improve reliability, stability and efficiency
  • Support requirements management, traceability and compliance throughout the development life cycle
  • Ensure software meets applicable customer, safety, quality and industry requirements
  • Support embedded software project planning and execution
  • Monitor and assess internal and supplier software activities against project plans and quality expectations
  • Stay current with relevant embedded technologies, tools and development practices

This role would suit someone with experience in areas such as aerospace, defense, avionics, robotics, autonomous systems or other safety-critical embedded environments, particularly where software interacts directly with hardware and real-time systems.
