Electrical Engineer - Motor Control & Electromechanical Actuation

Location: Illinois (On-site)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and validate advanced fractional horsepower motor systems and motor control electronics for high-performance electromechanical actuation applications. This role covers the full development lifecycle, including motor design, drive electronics, embedded firmware, and real-time control systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and analyse BLDC, PMSM, brushed DC, and stepper motor systems.
  • Develop motor drive electronics, mixed-signal schematics, and PCB designs.
  • Implement motor control algorithms (FOC, PID, sensorless control) and embedded firmware (C/C++).
  • Integrate motors into electromechanical actuator systems.
  • Support hardware bring-up, HIL testing, system debugging, and product validation.
  • Develop test plans, analyse performance, and resolve motor control or firmware issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support compliance with aerospace and industry standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years' experience in motor control, motor design, or electromechanical actuation.
  • Strong knowledge of motor physics, control theory, embedded firmware, and power electronics.
  • Experience with real-time embedded systems, feedback sensors, and communication protocols (CAN, RS-485 or similar).
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience with electromechanical actuator systems.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink, FPGA-based control, or LabVIEW.
  • Experience with high-voltage laboratory testing, HIL testing, and aerospace or safety-critical systems.
  • Familiarity with DO-160, DO-254, or other regulated engineering standards.
